Kohli's 'truly brave' Shastri
Virat Kohli has a role to play in his coaching of the Indian national team. Kumble has left the post as he could not get along with former coach Anil Kumble. Before appointing Ravi Shastri as the coach, the committee in charge of appointing Kohli wants to know Kohli's opinion.
Though there is controversy over the renewal of Shastri's contract after the 2019 World Cup, it is believed that Kohli has a hand in extending it. The selection committee did not seek Kohli's opinion directly, but the India captain had earlier told the media that he would like Shastri to continue as coach.
It goes without saying that Kohli has a great relationship with that Shastri. Today is Shastri's 56th birthday. And to wish him a happy birthday, Kohli called him 'truly brave'.
Congratulating the coach, Kohli wrote on Twitter, "Many people pretend to be confident. But few are truly brave. Happy birthday, brother Ravi. God bless you. ' India co-captain Ajinkya Rahane also wrote, "Be very happy. Happy birthday, brother Ravi. Have a nice day. I hope to see you soon. '
Shastri, who played 60 Tests and 150 ODIs for India, took over as India's coach in July 2016. After that, his coaching career has progressed along the 'rail line' parallel to success and failure. Just as India won the Test series without Smith-Warner on Australian soil, India lost the series against England 4-1 under him. Now, of course, India is at the top of the points list of the World Test Championship. Despite winning series like Asia Cup, Nidahas Trophy in ODIs, India failed to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup once again.
